Invitations: A Story of Thanksgiving
(short story)
Five years after a painful divorce, Rick is invited to Thanksgiving by his ex-wife, Jennifer. He walks into a life that should have been his: the perfect house, the happy marriage, and the child they could never conceive together. Trapped for an afternoon in this hall of mirrors, Rick is forced to confront the memories, resentments, and deep-seated grief that he's tried to bury, leading to a single moment of grace that could either grant him closure or shatter him completely.
"A very moving, beautifully written story which unfolds effortlessly and, with a graceful touch, moves us through powerful, emotionally volatile territory: lost love, childlessness, and that forever elusive past we never cease longing to revise . . . there's a stoic nobility to the narrator."
